Seasons on the Farm
Seasons on the Farm (2023) documents the working life of our organic, regenerative Wisconsin farm during a year that challenged us with drought and demanded the best we had to give, but also rewarded us with lasting friendships and a bountiful harvest.
Winter
In Winter, Gwenyn Hill’s farmers lead us though the “quiet season,” as the dairy operation continues and preparations begin for the seasons to come.
The Growing Season
The Growing Season takes us through spring planting, newborn lambs, cows returning to pasture, and greening gardens and orchards, to a mid-season drought, ongoing harvests and the final days of summer.
Harvest
Harvest celebrates the season’s bounty with gatherings of friends, family and community, while Gwenyn Hill farmers ready the land and livestock for winter.
About Seasons on the Farm
The Seasons on the Farm trilogy had its origins in the disruptions of the Covid epidemic, when award-winning television producer Fawn Ring approached general manager Linda Halley in 2021 about joining Gwenyn Hill Farm’s staff. She had completed the Farmer Training Program at University of Vermont and wanted more experience on a diverse organic farm before returning to the upstate NY farm where she grew up.
As Gwenyn Hill’s first program manager, Fawn suggested a video project representing a year in the life of the farm. Starting in early 2023 with Winter, and progressing through The Growing Season and Harvest, Fawn interviewed our farm staff and worked as creative director and producer to develop this series, along with videographers Matt Dula and Samuel Rong, and editor Michael Rogers.
